2. Transmission of Documents to the Firm
You send your documents to the firm according to the agreed method:
In person: Submission of physical documents or meeting with the accountant.
Digital (most common): Download from a secure client portal or sending via encrypted email.
3. Preparation of the Declaration
We proceed with the preparation, following these main steps:
Data entry: The information from your slips and receipts is entered into professional tax software (such as DT Max, Taxprep).
Use of CRA/RQ services: The firm may use the CRA's Auto-fill my return and Revenu Québec's Tax Data Download services (with your authorization) to automatically import a large portion of your slips and verify the completeness of the information provided.
Tax optimization: The accountant ensures that you benefit from all applicable deductions and credits, including spousal transfers, loss carryforwards, RRSP/TFSA deduction optimization, and specific provincial tax credit claims.
Review: An internal review is performed to ensure the conformity and accuracy of the calculations.
4. Validation and Transmission Authorization
Before submitting the declaration, we:
Let's present the results: It provides you with a summary of your situation (refund or balance due).
We need your signature: You must sign the authorization forms (usually the T183 and the CO-1000 in Quebec) which allow the firm to transmit your return electronically (EFILE) and to act as your representative.
5. Transmission and Monitoring
Transmission: We electronically transmit the declaration to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Revenu Québec (RQ).
Payment: If you have a balance to pay, we will remind you of the payment deadline (usually April 30th) and provide you with instructions.
Client file: We are providing you with a complete copy of your submitted declaration for your records.
